BIALL Conference 2017: Together or apart? New ways of working, the 48th Annual Study Conference and Exhibition – Now Taking Registrations

I am pleased to announce that registration is now open for our 2017 conference in Manchester. Together or apart? New ways of working, the 48th Annual Study Conference and Exhibition will be held at The Principal, Manchester from Thursday 8 – Saturday 10 June 2017. Click here to view or download the Provisional Programme from the BIALL website (in response to feedback we are not sending a paper copy out this year).

Following our keynote address from David Allen Green speaking on how good information can impact the Brexit debate, there will be sessions on topics such as collaborating across multiple sites, managing virtual teams, developing communication skills, and the impact of legal tech on our working lives. The Pre-conference Seminar on Wednesday 7th June is all about gathering feedback, taking you through some of the different methodologies before a chance to get hands on and try out some data collection techniques. In addition to the conference sessions we are pleased to offer members of the Academic Law Librarians, Knowledge Management and Irish Special Interest Groups the opportunity for a face-to-face forum, as well another gathering for New Professionals hosted by the Professional Development Committee.

On the social side we will have the BIALL First Night Networking Event on Thursday and the President’s Reception and BIALL Annual Dinner on Friday, kindly sponsored by LexisNexis  Both events take place in The Principal Manchester.

We are pleased that, once again, we have an extensive exhibition and encourage you all to spend time networking with our suppliers. In addition, we provide you with the opportunity to attend Product Showcases, during the lunch periods, to find out more about the services and products they have on offer.

For those wishing to stay a little longer there is an optional tour of Manchester Central Library on the Saturday afternoon – all details are available in the Provisional Programme & Registration Form.

The 48th Annual British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) Study Conference and

Exhibition, to be held at The Principal Manchester from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 June 2017, is the premier event for the legal information sector.

Together or apart? Effective ways of working” is the theme for this year’s BIALL conference which will enable delegates to explore different working practices and working relationships, training techniques, tech solutions and the role of our professional networks, as well as the Brexit vote and its potential impact. The keynote address, “Informing the debate about Brexit” will be given by David Allen Green, Senior Consultant at Preiskel & Co., and law and policy commentator at the Financial Times.

The conference theme will be explored by a variety of presentations and workshops covering topics such as how legal information professions collaborate when working in virtual teams and different offices as well as a story of client and law firm enquiry service working together.

The Exhibition is an integral part of the Annual Conference and provides a forum for suppliers to exhibit and showcase their products as well as an opportunity to meet with conference delegates.
