The British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) is pleased to announce their inaugural postgraduate study bursary has been awarded to Josephine (Jo) Bailey.
Jo Bailey is presently a library assistant at the Squire Law Library, part of the University of Cambridge, and will commence the University of Sheffield’s distance learning MA course in Autumn 2015. The award, the first to be given by the Association, covers the cost of the course fees. The judges were impressed by Jo’s dedication to law librarianship early in her career, including joining the CILIP East committee and attending BIALL’s Legal Reference Materials course. Special praise was given for her having assisted with copyright compliance issues for the Law Faculty in her current role at Squire Law Library. Prior to embarking on a career in libraries in 2013, Jo gained a first class history degree from Anglia Ruskin University.
Lisa Davies, Chair of the BIALL Awards and Bursaries Committee, said: “We are delighted to be able to assist Jo in her post-graduate study. She has shown herself to be a great asset to the profession, as well as contributing to the wider library and information community.”
Jo Bailey, on receiving her award, said: “I am both honoured and grateful to receive the BIALL Professional Studies Bursary. Owing to this opportunity, I am able to achieve my ambition of becoming a qualified librarian by undertaking a Masters in Library and Information Services Management. Support such as this for new professionals is tremendous.”
