Barristers rebel against ‘anti-trans’ speaker at LGBTQ event

An Inn of Court has been accused of bowing to pressure to include “anti-trans” speakers at a debate.

An open letter from more than 100 anonymous lawyers and students called for the inaugural Middle Temple LGBTQ forum debate to be postponed yesterday after a row flared over the speakers on the subject of “the fight to ban gay conversion therapy”.

Nancy Kelley, the chief executive of Stonewall, the campaign group that has adopted a controversial approach to gender self-identity, was set to be on a panel at the meeting, which is due to take place this evening.

Kelley was scheduled to be joined by Kieran Aldred, Stonewall’s head of policy, and Robin Allen, QC, who was on a working party that lobbied for the proposed…
