The 2016 Australasian Law Awards have been announced, following weeks of anticipation. Congratulations to all the firms and in-house teams that have made this year’s shortlist.

Details on each finalist will now be provided to a panel of judges comprising legal professionals from leading corporates, private practice and academia, who will determine this year’s award winners.

Russell McVeagh picks up nomination hat-trick at the 2016 Australasian Law Awards

Russell McVeagh is proud to be nominated as finalists for three award categories for the annual Australasian Law Awards, announced earlier today.
The firm’s CEO, Gary McDiarmid, is nominated for Law Firm Leader of the Year, senior partner and board member Pip Greenwood is nominated for NZ Dealmaker of the Year and Russell McVeagh’s Capital Markets team is nominated for NZ Deal Team of the Year.
The awards recognise the ‘best of the best’ in Australasia’s legal industry and define excellence in the legal profession, with leading firms and in-house team recognised for their outstanding achievements over the past 12 months.
The firm would also like to congratulate the finalists for the Russell McVeagh-sponsored ‘In-house Team of the Year Award’ which include – Auckland Council – Legal Services, Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited, ASB, UBS New Zealand Limited, ANZ, AIG NZ and Fletcher Building Limited.

Adnan Sundra triumphs at Malaysia Law Awards
Adnan Sundra & Low was on a winning streak at the 2016 ALB Malaysia Law Awards, picking up eight awards at the event, now in its third year. The firm’s awards haul included Malaysia Deal Firm of the Year and Malaysia Law Firm of the Year, while Deepak Sadasivan was honoured as Managing Partner of the Year.
Skrine and Zaid Ibrahim & Co also shone at the gala awards dinner held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur on April 7, collecting five and three gongs, respectively. The former was hailed as the Aviation Law Firm of the Year and Real Estate Law Firm of the Year while the latter was a joint winner for two new categories: Islamic Finance Deal of the Year (Premium) and Debt Market Deal of the Year (Premium).
Up-and-coming players Peter Ling & van Geyzel and MahWengKwai & Associates emerged as the Rising Firm of the Year and the Boutique Law Firm of the Year, respectively. Meanwhile, Watson Farley & Williams Asia Practice brought home the International Deal Firm of the Year award.
In the in-house categories, Sime Darby took the Malaysia In-House Team of the Year prize for the second year in a row while GSK Malaysia’s Hooi Bien Chuah was named In-House Lawyer of the Year.
