Considering the political time bomb that went off last week with the AG stepping down to take a “mental health” break.
It’s funny how those on the right hijack the language of the present after years of trying to degrade and dismiss it, but we can have a semiotics discussion another time.
This also after the recent revelations about former chief justice Dyson
We thought it might be a good day to see what law firms are talking about International Women’s Day and whether in their annoucements / press releases there’s any discussion of the state of discrimination and gender inequality that is so blatantly obvious within the Australian business of law.
First up
It is good to see Lawyers Weekly leading with the following this morning
We have to continue fighting’: The changes the profession must consider in 2021 to achieve true gender equality
Let’s start with Minter Ellison who are now tagged as Australia’s largest law firm and are involved in a civil war over the fact that a male partner has decided to take on Porter as a client for media defamation matters but it appears without going through the normal channels which then incensed the chief executive , a woman.
As a firm they are as good as anywhere to start
Here’s their latest media release .. not a word about their internal strife, the fact that it is International Women’s Day or the issues in the Australian world of law at the moment
Next we hop over to King Wood & Mallesons where in both news and insights it is the same story not a thing mentioned
Let’s try Ebsworth as they say…..We’re not your typical law firm so maybe a bit more luck there
But unfortunately it all looks entirely typical
Ashursts . Nada
Herbert Smith Freehills . Nothing again although at least they are leading their news with a multiculturalism conversation, out of the UK we hasten to add.
Let’s go lower down the pecking order
Allens
Corrs Chambers Westgarth – at long last something. OK it isn’t dated today and doesn’t directly deal with the last week or so but at least this is their most current news story. Hurrah
Dentons … nothing to see here
Griffith Hack….
Three cheers for Hall & Wilcox. Not one story but two and dated 8 March too. Fantastic
Hall and Wilcox are also doing this .. if only more firms were like them
Johnson Winter & Slattery
Maurice Blackburn don’t say anything today but that’s fine as they referenced the Porter issue last week and they have a relevant alert from Mid February
Piper Alderman
Thomson Geer
