Australian Blake Dawson Waldron Officially Open in Tokyo

Blake Dawson’s new Tokyo office has officially opened its doors for business, making it the first Australian law firm to secure a licence to practise and have an office in Japan… so sayeth the press release.


The new office is? located in the centre of Tokyo’s CBD, and Blake Dawson’s Japan team will be led by Ian Williams, Rupert Lewi and new resident partner Natsuko Ogawa.

It will further strengthen the firm’s North Asian practice which has a market leading reputation and longstanding client relationships with many of Japan’s foremost trading houses, financial institutions, energy and resources, infrastructure, and consumer products companies.

Blake Dawson’s managing partner John Carrington said: “Attaining the licence represents not just a major step for Blake Dawson but for the Australian legal profession. It follows extensive discussions and engagement with the Japanese regulatory authorities and adds to the firm’s Asian presence that now spans Shanghai, Singapore, Jakarta and Port Moresby.”
