Australia: Truck driver was listening to loud music when he fatally hit cyclist, lawyer tells court

The ABC reports..

A South Australian judge has rejected claims a truck driver did not realise he had hit a cyclist because he was listening to loud music at the time the man was fatally struck.

Daniel Luke Barry, 39, failed to stop when he hit 60-year-old cyclist Daryl Adams in January 2019 in South Australia’s Coorong.

Mr Adams, who was riding from Melbourne to be in Adelaide for the Tour Down Under, died on the Princes Highway between Kingston SE and Salt Creek.

Barry was arrested in Naracoorte in the state’s south-east, about nine hours after the crash.

He was later found guilty of driving dangerously.

Today, Barry’s lawyer James Marcus argued that the truck driver had been listening to loud music and did not see the cyclist.
