ABC News Australia

A Sydney criminal lawyer has been charged with illegally publishing the details of an alleged sexual assault victim.

Abdul Saddik was arrested by officers from the NSW Police criminal groups squad on Tuesday morning, before being taken to Granville Police Station.

The 31-year-old solicitor was charged with publishing details of a complainant in a prescribed sexual offence and granted bail by police.

Detectives will allege Mr Saddik was representing a 24-year-old man charged with sexual assault when he shared sensitive information about the case with an unrelated third party, including the identity of the alleged victim.

Police say they will also allege in court Mr Saddik is a “close associate” of a high-profile organised crime family from Sydney’s south-west.

He is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday, June 11.

According to his firm’s website, Mr Saddik has previously worked on “some of the country’s most prominent and complex criminal law matters”, including murder, serious assaults and drug importation.
