He’s no Julian Assange and he’s both nasty and bonkers
Simeon Boikov, 33, the self-styled ‘Aussie Cossack’ and pro-Russia campaigner, has been living in a private apartment inside the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the exclusive Sydney suburb of Woollahra.
Boikov has been holed up at the seven-storey building set in lush, manicured gardens since fleeing police arrest and a certain return to prison last December.
He has now proposed an audacious plan to help him avoid prison permanently and skip the country by dobbing in a list of Australians to a Russian paramilitary group he has urged to ‘take them prisoner’ in Ukraine.
He has told the private mercenary group he realises that ‘in the heat of battle it is not always possible to take them alive’.
Despite his plan to exit Australia, Boikov told the Sydney Morning Herald he was safe and comfortable and ‘not living out of a suitcase’ in the consulat.
He said Russia’s Australian diplomats ‘don’t plan to surrender me … this is not the Ecuadorians’.
Boikov was referring to the Ecuadorian embassy which ousted Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in 2019 after giving him seven years’ political asylum from extradition to Sweden or the US over sexual assault allegations and conspiracy to leak military secrets.
