Australia: New Earth Cafe owner and solicitor decline to wear masks, prompting courthouse spat

The ABC reports on another idiotic solicitor and yet another “Health Food Cafe” owner who doesn’t appear to believe in health!  She apparently has a health exemption although we don’t learn what that is and her site appears to imply she is the paragon of health.

Oh we forgot the pandemic is a conspiracy etc etc.

Unless health is, these days, as she says on her website “Sound Healing & Transformational Breathwork”.. I suppose one can’t make $’s with transformational breathwork wearing a mask.

Her lawyer Robert Grealy from Australian Law Partners should know better but it appears a decent education has been wasted yet again, or QUT should be picking up their game on who they pass at law school !

The ABC reports

A south-east Queensland courtroom has erupted in a heated discussion over face masks after a solicitor said he was unable to enter the courthouse because his mask exemption was not taken seriously.

Robert Grealy from Australian Law Partners is representing Sarah Parsons, 38, who was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning for allegedly refusing to wear a face mask at her New Earth Cafe in Coolum.

She made headlines last month after she was refused entry to the same Sunshine Coast courthouse because she declined to wear a mask, saying she had a health exemption.

At the time, Magistrate Haydn Sjernqvist said failing to appear today would prompt a warrant for her arrest.

But while Ms Parsons was at the courthouse this morning, she did not enter the building.

Mr Grealy appeared on her behalf by phone, but missed two calls from the court.

Once connected, Mr Grealy criticised the court’s health protocols, saying he was “kept out” of the court because security would not accept his mask exemption.

“I don’t agree with being kept out of the courtroom,” he said.

‘That’s why I phoned you’

Over the phone today, Magistrate Rodney Madsen asked Mr Grealy if he ought to issue an arrest warrant.

“Issue a warrant for what?” Mr Grealy said.

Magistrate Madsen said the defence had taken a “strong objection” to him.

“I phoned you because you couldn’t come into the building — that’s why I phoned you,” he said.

Mr Grealy said he could not abide by the court’s mask rules due to a medical issue.

“I have a medical condition that stops me from wearing a mask, yes,” he said.

He also said his client, Ms Parsons, attempted to show proof of her exemption, but it was not accepted by security at the courthouse.

The matter was adjourned until late September.
