Australia: Library Technician / Librarian Thomsons Lawyers – Sydney NSW

The role:

We are currently seeking a Library Technician or Librarian to work in our Sydney office, on a full-time basis. This is an autonomous role working as part of a supportive national team. The role is responsible for assisting and providing quality information services and research to staff, locally and nationally as required.

Role requirements:

  • Provide recommendations and advice in relation to the firm’s library resources based on knowledge of availability and quality of products and understanding of needs of practice areas.
  • Order new material relevant to practice groups (in consultation with interstate librarians and the Chief Operations Officer)
  • Maintaining the library Intranet in collaboration with the interstate librarians in a SharePoint environment.
  • Catalogue new acquisitions as/when required in accordance with library policies
  • Manage loose leaf updates including filing, and follow up of missing updates/issues/pages and orders with publishers.
  • Undertake complex reference and research queries as requested by Partners and staff
  • Conduct inductions and training for Thomson Geer staff
  • Maintain the Library Resource Centre intranet pages as required
  • Examines knowledge management issues from the standpoint of the firm, ensuring alignment with the corporate vision/objectives and looking at `return on investment.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have 2-4 years’ experience as Librarian or 4+ years as Senior Library Technician;
  • Hold a degree or post graduate qualification in library and information services/management;
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and the ability to problem solve;
  • Display advanced Microsoft suite skills;
  • Maintain a strong focus on service delivery;
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels; and
  • Experience with systems such as; Westlaw AU, Lexis Advance, LexisNexus, CCM Intelliconnect, Timebase and Lawlex.

You must be able to work autonomously with minimum direction, have exceptional time management and organisational skills, with a strong client service focus.
