Former Star general counsel Paula Martin faced a tough start on Wednesday as she resumed giving evidence in ASIC’s case against the casino’s former executives and directors.
ederal Court judge Michael Lee has rebuked Star Entertainment’s former top lawyer after she admitted calling her solicitor “in a panic” over her evidence regarding a casino junket operator.
Day 14 of ASIC’s case against former Star directors and executives on Tuesday started with Star’s ex-general counsel and company secretary Paula Martin seeking to correct evidence she gave late on Monday about Alvin Chau, the boss of Macau-based operator Suncity.
James Arnott SC, for ASIC, asked Martin when she became aware that Chau had been the subject of multiple reports over his links to organised crime, suggesting it was in April 2017.
“I can recall becoming aware of those allegations in 2019,” Martin said on Monday.
