MEDIA RELEASE
2016 Entries Open for the Legal Innovation Index
Celebrating legal innovation in the Pacific
SYDNEY, 16 May 2016: Entries have opened for the 2016 Legal Innovation Index, the annual celebration of legal industry game changers, now in its fourth year. The Index is inviting individuals, teams and firms who are disrupting and recreating the practice of law, from across Australia and New Zealand, to submit their entries between now and mid-July.
Last year’s Index saw Allens, Envato, Gilbert + Tobin, Herbert Smith Freehills, LawPath, McCullough Robertson Lawyers, Norton Rose Fulbright, RMB Lawyers, Sydney Criminal Lawyers and The Fold Legal secure a position alongside innovative individuals Matthew Burgess, Director, View Legal; Brennan Ong, Managing Director, LawAdvisor; Dr Cathy Sherry, Senior Lecturer, University of New South Wales and Dominic Woolrych, Legal Product Manager, LawPath.
The Index this year will again celebrate individual innovators, legal firms and in-house legal departments and the innovation they display in the development of their businesses, the way they deliver their services and how they teach and mentor. Judged by innovation and legal experts from across Australia and the world, the 2016 Legal Innovation Index will be announced on 24 August by LexisNexis® Pacific, a leading provider of content and technology solutions and Janders Dean, a leading independent management consultancy focused solely on legal service delivery transformation.
“Since the conception of this Index, we are proud to have seen some amazing innovations being rolled out by the legal firms, the in-house counsels as well as the individual innovators, a category for whom was introduced just last year”, explains Joanne Beckett, Managing Director, LexisNexis Australia. “We are optimistic about the new practices and strategies which have been implemented since the last Index, and hope to see an exponential growth in entries this year.”
“Large law made a powerful impact during last year’s Index and several entries were of a world-class level. They were joined by an amazing selection of non-traditional entrants, all of whom shone in 2015,” says Justin North, Director, Janders Dean.
“With respect to innovation and disruption, this is a time of great noise and confusion in our industry, but there is a subset of individuals and organisations that are moving beyond the hype and towards true differentiation,” adds North. “Some firms ‘talk’, and some firms ‘do’. The Index has been the benchmark for separating these, and for recognising those who continue to push the boundaries to shape the future of the legal industry.”
Firms and in-house legal teams will be asked to define innovation and provide examples of their activities. These can include various projects, programs, initiatives and/or cultural evidence. Individuals will be assessed for their innovative ideas, approaches and outcomes.
