Ahh we love a lawyer who’s gone over to the darkside ! Australia’s Lawyers Weekly reports on (ex)practising solicitor, Alina Yousif, who has been charged and arrested for her involvement in a group accused of manufacturing and supplying drugs, as well as producing and using fake driver’s licences and documents.
Alina Yousif, a 26-year-old solicitor, along with co-accused Clinton Roy Parkinson, Danny Kearney and David Alan Oddy, were arrested last month after NSW Police became aware that the group, with links to an outlaw bikie gang, was allegedly using fake Indian driver licences and documents in order to obtain Australian licences from NSW’s Roads and Maritime Services.
In addition, the police charged the group with manufacturing and supplying drugs.
In the raid of Ms Yousif’s Albury home, which she shares with Mr Parkinson, Ms Yousif was allegedly caught “red-handed”, counting some $8,000 suspected to be in relation to the supplying of 55.5 grams of ice. According to SBS, she is also accused of using false documents to obtain property, recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime and taking part in a criminal group.
Ms Yousif appeared in Albury Local Court via video-link on 7 December where she applied for bail. Her bail was subsequently denied after the court heard from a police official who referenced a large amount of electronically recorded evidence as giving the prosecution an “extremely strong case”.
“She is literally caught out red-handed, on this material, counting out the money,” Magistrate Tony Murray said.
Ms Yousif will return to court on 5 February.
