Full job description
The Assistant Librarian supports the Manager, Library & Information Services NSW & ACT in the provision of a high quality library and information service to Judges and staff of the Federal Circuit and Family Court in NSW & the ACT. This role will include technical and research functions such as purchasing, processing, circulation, ready reference enquiries and current awareness.Duties
1. Client services
- Respond effectively, promptly and courteously to all reference and document requests including Inter-library loan.
- Assist clients in the use of legal and social science research tools.
2. Current awareness services
- Index articles for the Family Law Update and assist with the compilation of the Family Law Update.
3. Collection development, organisation and maintenance
- Place orders for new monographs to be held in the Library and Chambers collections.
- Enter details related to monographs on the library management system.
- Process incoming mail and accession serial materials onto the library management system.
- File and keep loose-leaf services up-to-date.
- Process invoices onto Finance One.
- Maintain and enhance library databases.
4. Library Management
- Be a committed member of the local and national library team by contributing to the initiation of improved and new services and changes to procedures.
- Participate in the Court’s performance management program.
- Participate in the activities of relevant professional bodies and associations in the library and information sector.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary Library qualifications and library experience preferably within a legal environment.
- Experience in the use of legal and social science reference and research tools via online and print.
- High level interpersonal skills including oral and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including judicial officers and staff.
- High level administrative and organisational skills including accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a small team and taking initiative, being adaptable and discrete .
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft office and library management systems.
To be eligible for employment with the Federal Court of Australia, you must be an Australian Citizen and will be required to provide proof of citizenship if you are the successful applicant.
Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period
