Anthony Lin the Hong Kong based correspondent for Incisive Media in Asia reports on two stories concerning lawyers in confrontation with authority.

Regular AALE readers will have seen both stories reported on the blog over the past week.

The first concerns lawyers in Chennai who have come into direct conflict with the local police after protests against a politician got out of hand.

While in Beijing, Yitong law firm,  is shut down because they’d supposedly  hired an unlicensed lawyer. Everybody in Beijing’s legal circles knows the real reason. The shutdown is intended to punish the firm and send a warning to others…. because some of its lawyers were involved in last year’s campaign to institute direct elections for the leadership of the Beijing Lawyers Association.
