The Lawyer (UK) report via their latest Asia editorial
Ashurst’s Chinese alliance firm, Guantao, is taking a serious look at its long-term strategy, and is drafting in former Ashurst senior partner Geoffrey Green as an adviser.
Green has a wealth of experience in Asia, having followed up his senior partner role with that of Asia managing partner until retirement last year – making him a good person to help Guantao navigate its way through the choppy seas of internationalisation.
As Guantao managing partner Cui Liguo told The Lawyer, Chinese firms still have a lot to learn from their international counterparts and a good way for them to advance is to access and leverage international firms’ existing experience and expertise.
Many of Guantao’s domestic peers would agree – hiring foreign consultants for strategic advice is a growing trend among Chinese firms.
