The European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) held its 103rd plenary meeting in Strasbourg from 19 to 21 November 2024. Following a final examination, the CDCJ approved the draft convention for the protection of the profession of lawyer prepared by the Committee of Experts on the Protection of Lawyers (CJ-AV) and adopted its draft explanatory report, with a view to the transmission of both texts to the Committee of Ministers.
The Committee also examined the draft feasibility study on a non-binding legal instrument regarding stateless children’s access to nationality, as prepared by the consultant of the CDCJ Limited Working Group on Migration (CDCJ-MIG), authorised its publication on the Committee’s website.
During the meeting, the composition of the new Committee of Experts on Access to Origins (CJ-OR) was decided and its chairperson selected. The committee’s mandate is to prepare a draft recommendation on the rights of donor-conceived persons to know their origins, by the end of 2026.
The CDCJ adopted the practical guide and other tools aiming to facilitate the implementation of the European Convention on Information on Foreign Law (ETS. No. 62) and its Additional Protocol (ETS. No. 97). The guide and other tools will feature on a dedicated webpage soon to be launched.
