Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research will host its 2nd Annual National Antiracist Book Festival on Saturday, April 24. After canceling the festival last year, it returns this year, running author panels and writers workshops virtually from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ibram X. Kendi is the founder and director of the center.
The #AntiracistBookfest “brings together, showcases, and celebrates the nation’s leading antiracist writers and helps to prepare the writers of tomorrow.” Timely and topical panels will have two authors and a moderator, and writers’ workshops for writers will be led by book editors and literary agents.
The author lineup includes Black Lives Matter cofounder Alicia Garza (The Purpose of Power: How We Come Together When We Fall Apart), Carole Lindstrom (We Are Water Protectors), Celeste Ng (Little Fires Everywhere), ESPN senior writer Howard Bryant (Full Dissidence: Notes from an Uneven Playing Field), Kendi (Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You), congresswoman Ilhan Omar (This is What America Looks Like: My Journey from Refugee to Congresswoman), Jacqueline Woodson (Before the Ever After), Jason Reynolds (Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You), Tiffany Jewell (This Book is Antiracist: 20 Lessons on How to Wake Up, Take Action, and Do the Work), and Tommy Orange (There There).
Tickets to panels can be purchased individually for $10. An all-access ticket is $250 and gives buyers access to all panels and writers’ workshops, along with a tote bag and limited edition copy of Kendi’s Stamped from the Beginning. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the work of the BU Center for Antiracist Research.
