Animal Law Week | March 11-15

Mark your calendars—the students are busy putting the finishing touches on a week of events for our annual Animal Law Week! From March 11-15th students will raise awareness and celebrate all things animal law as they celebrate 30 years of the Lewis & Clark Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. The week will include a special evening on March 13 with vegan chef, entrepreneur, and animal advocate, Miyoko Schinner. Details here.

Interested in learning more about our advanced degrees in animal law? Please join us for a webinar on Tuesday, March 19th, at 11am PT—From Student to Professor: How Lewis & Clark’s Animal Law LLM Launched a Career in Academia. Our guest will be Lewis & Clark Law School Adjunct Professor and Animal Law LLM alum, Rebecca Critser, who will share her own experiences in the program, including how her work in one of our courses led to the publication of a recent law journal article critically examining a zoo’s claim that it was supporting wild animal conservation. Call for Abstracts | March 31

Together with our co-hosts, we are seeking submissions for our 2nd Annual Comparative Animal Law Virtual Postgraduate Workshop. Abstracts are due by March 31, 2024. Animal Agriculture Symposiums | April 5 & 6

Please join us in April for two informative Symposiums on animal agriculture that are open to the public. On Friday, April 5, the Center for Animal Law Studies and the Environmental Law Program are co-hosting Animal Agriculture & Climate Change: The Very Big Cow in the Room, featuring a keynote address by award-winning New York Times  opinion columnist, Nicholas Kristof. Details here. Then, on Saturday, April 6, the Animal Law Review will present their 13th annual Symposium, with this year’s theme: Taking CAFOs to Court. The event will be held primarily virtually, with an option to attend in-person at the law school. Details here.

Animal Law Conference | October 18-20

Mark your calendars to join us in Portland, Oregon, and online October 18-20th for our 32nd annual Animal Law Conference. Co-presented by the Center for Animal Law Studies and the Animal Legal Defense Fund, it is the nation’s premier animal law event. There is still time to submit panel ideas in response to our Call for Proposals, due on Friday, March 1st, at this link.

Join the Next Generation

We’re accepting applications for admission for Animal Law LLM (for lawyers) and MSL (for non-lawyers) students to start fall of 2024 for study in our online advanced degree program.
