More than 200 Chinese human rights lawyers and activists have been targeted by police in a nationwide crackdown which began on Thursday 9 July. At least 30 are feared still detained by police.

*Zhang Kai is now placed under residential surveillance on suspicion of “stealing, spying into, purchasing, or illegally providing state secrets or intelligence to an organ, organization, or individual outside the country”’ and “disturbing public order” as part of a wider crackdown on activists who are resisting the removal of crosses from churches, a crackdown that is distinct from the one that this list documents.
Amnesty International has collated the list based on various sources and attempted to confirm all information. However, verification remains difficult and not all the information may be up to date.
