Amber Racine, Philadelphia Bar leader, dies suddenly at 39

Very sad news indeed.

Racine, a lawyer at plaintiff personal injury firm Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer, served as president of the Barristers’ Association in 2013 and was the immediate past chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Board of Governors.

Ms. Racine received her Bachelor’s degree in History & Politics from Drexel University where she was an A.J. Drexel Scholar. Ms. Racine entered Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law in 2004 and attended classes in the evening while working full-time as a paralegal at a litigation firm. In 2008, she received her law degree and was awarded Distinguished Classroom Performance and Outstanding Oral Advocacy Awards.

In 2010, The Barristers’? Association of Philadelphia presented her with the President’s Award for her service to the organization. In 2011, The Legal Intelligencer named Amber a “Lawyer on the Fast Track”. In 2013, she was named one of Philadelphia’s Most Influential African-Americans by The Philadelphia Tribune. Annually, since 2012, she has been named a “Super Lawyer – Rising Star” by Philadelphia Magazine. In 2015, the Philadelphia Business Journal recognized Ms. Racine as a “future transformer”? for the City of Philadelphia and its plaintiffs’? trial bar. In 2016, the Barristers’ Association honored her as its Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year.

Ms. Racine is a past President of The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. and served on the Association’s Executive Board from 2009 through 2016. In 2016, she was elected to serve a three-year term on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Board of Governors and, in 2019, served as Chair of the Board. Currently, she is an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s House of Delegates, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association’s Board of Directors (Membership Chair) and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice’s Board of Governors.

In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors for two of Philadelphia’s largest pro bono agencies – Community Legal Services and Philadelphia Legal Assistance.

Amber is admitted to practice in the States of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as the Eastern and Middle District Courts of Pennsylvania and the District Court of New Jersey.
