In a lawsuit filed Friday in New York state court, ALM accused The Lawyer Invitational Inc. (TLI) of failing to turn over 25 percent of gross revenue it is owed from The Lawyer Invitational Golf Tournament, a series of golfing events for top lawyers and business leaders held at high-end golf courses across the country, including the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles and in Westchester New York, the Atlanta National Golf Club and the Colonial Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

A spokesperson for TLI said the company was “shocked” by the lawsuit, which it is currently reviewing.

“[W]e are disappointed that our partnership with ALM Media has culminated with legal action,” TLI said in a statement. “However, we are sure that the full picture of any allegations will become apparent.”

According to the suit, ALM and TLI inked an agreement in 2009 to plan, market and execute the tournaments. TLI would manage and administer the tournaments, while ALM was responsible for advertising and helping to market the event through its stable of legal publications, which include The National Law Journal, The New York Law Journal, law.com and Corporate Counsel.

ALM said it is entitled to 25 percent of the $384,304 collected from seven tournaments held in 2010 and 2011. But despite the agreement, and subsequent repeated requests for payment, TLI has failed to turn over any of the proceeds ALM claims it is owed, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also alleges that TLI has failed to turn over financial reports from the tournament, as required by the terms of the 2009 contract.

An attorney for ALM did not immediately return a request for comment Monday.

The case is ALM Media LLC v. The Lawyer Invitational Inc., in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, no. 11/107099
