Akin Gump to close in Singapore

U.S. law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is closing its Singapore office, with operations set to wind down in the second quarter of 2026. The office currently has eight lawyers, including one partner – Olivia Chung.

In a statement, Akin Gump said it will continue to serve clients in Singapore and those doing business in the jurisdiction through collaboration with its global practices and other offices. This will leave the firm with just one Asia office – in Hong Kong

“Akin intends to wind down operations in Singapore in Q2 of 2026, where we have eight lawyers,” a firm spokesperson said. “The firm will continue to invest in, and expand, its international platform, including its Asia hub in Hong Kong.”

The firm’s Hong Kong office currently has 15 lawyers, including five partners, making it the firm’s only remaining outpost in Asia once the Singapore closure is complete.

The closure marks a shift in Akin Gump’s Asia presence as the firm consolidates its regional operations. The Washington D.C.-headquartered firm pulled out from mainland China by shutting down its Beijing office in 2024, ending a 17-year presence in the Chinese capital.

The firm added that all Singapore-based lawyers have been given the option to relocate to other offices, with Chung set to move to Akin’s New York office.
