Access Services/Reference Position: Law Librarian – Mabee Legal Information Center, College of Law

The Access Services/Reference Law Librarian reports to the Director of the Mabee Legal Information Center (MLIC). The librarian performs a variety of functions and is responsible for coordinating access services activities; providing legal reference services; promoting and troubleshooting online products; assisting with teaching legal research; and other library duties as needed.

  • ACCESS SERVICES: Manages the Circulation Desk and student workers; be available to Circulation Desk staff 24/7 via text, e-mail or phone to troubleshoot access problems; assists library patrons in staying current in their MLIC membership
  • REFERENCE SERVICES: Assists faculty, students and attorneys in their legal research
  • ELECTRONIC RESOURCES: Serves as a contact for online subscriptions, main Westlaw and LEXIS point of contact, including managing faculty, staff and student IDs and passwords, and serves as liaison to Westlaw and LEXIS representatives to arrange training
  • MARKETING/ACCESS: Helps to produce in-house training materials, user guides, and library informational packet; promotes and offers informal, small-group training to students, faculty and staff in the use of these electronic products; maintains sections of the MLIC website related to job functions (Hours, Access Policies)
  • WEB: Helps maintain the College’s online Digital Archives
  • PUBLIC SERVICE – BIBLIOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION: Participates with other public services law librarians in providing assistance with faculty research, bibliographic instruction, and tours
  • PUBLIC SERVICE – POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Responsible, with the Director and other law librarians, for establishing policy and implementing changes to improve the overall service of the law library
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in and contributes to regional and national professional organizations, meetings, and continuing education activities
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

MLS or MLIS from an American Library Association accredited Library School with experience in legal reference; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MLIC staff, students, faculty and College of Law staff; ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
