Position Title: Access Services Librarian
Department: Law Library
Reports to: Director of the Veterans Memorial Law Library
Exemption: Exempt, Full-time (40 hours per week, 12 months) salary position
Salary: $42K-52K (Based on experience and education)

The Access Services Librarian is responsible for the provision of excellent service and the efficient operation of all access services functions including oversight of circulation, course reserves, stacks management, and building access. Collaborates with colleagues to provide research assistance and monitors trends and recommends emerging technologies, products, or services. Maintains online user guides and implements software updates. Trains and supervises student staff. Oversees all aspects of billing for overdue materials including reconciling bills with

Student Accounts. Collects and maintains statistical data related to the use of the building and circulation and resource sharing activities. Maintains cleanliness of the building and submits work orders for repair needs.

Main Duties

  • Manages user services and staff for circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, and stack maintenance.
  • Fosters excellent customer service by aiding library users, resolving problems, and responding to requests related to access services.
  • Collaborates with library staff and campus partners to update policies and resolve problems related to access services.
  • Monitors trends and recommends emerging technologies for resource sharing.
  • Provides research assistance through traditional and innovative means in accordance with the library’s mission and user service guidelines.
  • Oversees overdue fines, and billing processes for access services; runs reports, updates patron records, reconciles patron accounts, and collaborates with technical services staff to update the status of missing/lost and billed items.
  • Maintains Access Services’ Web presence.
  • Collects and reports statistical data related to collection use, service desk transactions, and building use.
  • Serves the library and law school through service and leadership.
  • Participates in scholarly and professional activities including publication of journal articles and book reviews, and presentations at regional and national professional conferences that contribute to the practice of academic librarianship.

Requirements for Position

Education:

  • Work requires a M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an American Library Association accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Enrollment in library degree program plus experience will be considered. J.D. or legal research knowledge or experience preferred.

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience as a professional librarian.
  • At least one year of experience supervising staff.
  • At least one year of experience in circulation related activities.
  • Experience in library and information literacy instruction.
  • Experience in providing reference service and research support using multiple modalities.
  • Experience implementing the application of modern and up-and-coming technologies for user services.
  • Successful project management experience.

Knowledge:

  • Expertise using resource sharing software, discovery tools, and productivity tools such as

Microsoft Office and Outlook

  • Competent experience using LMS for circulation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, colleagues, and students and to work successfully with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience supervising staff.
  • Experience using EOS Library Management software or equivalent.
  • Experience using LexisNexis and Westlaw software.
  • Experience using Outlook and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience using Springshare software.
