As a new law librarian, it is vital to take steps to become an effective professional early in your career. Please join Dr. Yvonne Chandler, Associate Professor in the Library and Information Sciences Department at the University of North Texas on October 27 as we discuss core skills needed to succeed today and look at current trends that may impact tomorrow.

We will discuss:

core law librarianship skills needed to succeed
law librarianship as a profession and current trends
preparing for and embracing additional responsibilities, roles, or functions
marketing what you do and why law librarianship is so important

Speaker:

Yvonne J. Chandler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Sciences (LIS) in the College of Information at the University of North Texas. Her research areas include legal information services, Internet resources and services, and education for library and information services. She teaches Law Library Management, Introduction to Information and Access Retrieval, Information and Access Services in the Social Sciences, Legal Information and Access Services, and Government Information and Access Services.?? She is Director and Advisor for the Legal Informatics Masters program and the Legal Information Management, and Legal Information Access Management program offered jointly by LIS and the School of Community Services.? Dr. Chandler developed the Law Librarianship program that has graduated more than 100 law librarians working in the state of Texas and across the nation including the directors of Baylor University, Texas Southern University, and Texas Wesleyan University Schools of Law.? Three graduates are library directors of major law firms that are ranked among the top 100 largest firms in the country according to the National Law Journal.? The Librarian Relations consultants for the Southwest region of the country for major legal publishers – LexisNexis and Thomson West – are graduates of the UNT program.

Moderator:

Donna S. Williams is a Law Librarian at the California Court of Appeal, Sixth Appellate District in San Jose and is the immediate past chair of the AALL Conference of Newer Law Librarians (CONELL) Committee. Donna has worked in private, academic and state, court county law libraries and is currently an AALL Executive Board member.
