USA- Law Librarian – 19th Judicial Circuit Court

Position: Law Librarian

Location: Waukegan, Illinois, United States

Salary: $50,243 Annually

Job Summary: Assist the public including self-represented litigants, attorneys, personnel from other departments and agencies in the use of library materials and equipment; train and assign work to library personnel; and direct the daily activities in the library.

Becoming a Law Librarian would allow you to be involved with running the Law Library within local government, ranging from providing appropriate legal information in an effective manner, without giving legal advice and organizing the Law Library’s reference material and resources to enable easy access and review to managing the work of the library clerks. Your day will consist of evaluate existing library collections and subscriptions, maintaining and updating print collections and electronic resources; overseeing and maintaining implementation of an integrated library automation plan including cataloging, serials control, and circulation systems and legal research with both manual and electronic resources. You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep you interested and continuously learning.

In order to be successful in this role you should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science (Master’s preferred) and 3 years of experience; a JD degree can substitute for experience. Individuals should have a working knowledge of principles and practices of modern Library Science, Legal Publications, and Indexing Systems of Law Library Administration and the methods and practices of research; possess the ability to effectively problem solve and have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere. This position is primarily sedentary but involves standing or walking for brief periods and occasional lifting up to 25lbs.
