Legal Product Developer – Practical Law/Westlaw

Purpose:

Assist with the development of enhancements to Practical Law Canada and Westlaw and other digital products and platforms that improve the customer experience and generate substantial new revenue for Thomson Reuters. This position requires someone who is passionate about understanding our customers, is capable of bringing creative and bold new ideas to life, and will deliver superior results consistently.

This position is responsible for:

–  coordinating development of content taxonomy and browse structures to organize Practical Law and WestlawNext Canada products to make sure most relevant associated content appears in the right place for our customers;

–  analyzing website metrics and customer behavior data to make intelligent decisions on optimizing our taxonomy navigation structures to retrieve pertinent documents;

–  analyzing data from related services and selecting the most pertinent references for inclusion on Practical Law;

–  partnering with management and the Practical Law Team to develop a content governance structure to develop workflows to maintain content taxonomy and socialize across Legal business;

–  participating in cross-functional product development teams to deliver new features and enhancements. This includes working with developers, R&D, online product analysts, product owners, content operations, marketing, customer service, testing, billing and account management teams;

–  contributing to specific product capabilities or features throughout the entire development process and being an effective advocate for the customer;

–  participating in the product requirement gathering process and UX reviews;

–  supporting and analyzing customer research to validate, prioritize, and refine new product concepts;

–  supporting product launch, release communications and ongoing sales efforts with presentations, customer visits, and education of internal stakeholders as required;

–  monitoring performance of new products and enhancements through customer usage and revenue tracking;

–  providing product oversight, including troubleshooting and quality assurance testing of products and enhancements as required;

–  monitoring legal, practice, technology and/or major market developments and share knowledge and collaborate with other development groups in the company;

–  participating in market research activities, and providing sales and marketing support, as required; and

–  providing additional editorial support for the Practical Law service as required.

Qualifications

You will be a strong team player and will possess:

–  an LL.B or J.D. degree;

–  a background or experience in Transactional Law;

–  a background (or strong aptitude and interest) in technology;

–  the ability to understand and apply technology to product development;

–  the ability to work with business users, project managers, software developers, UX team members, and testers to deliver robust solutions;

–  enthusiasm, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services;

–  strong analytical, problem-solving and issue-resolution skills;

–  the ability to react with urgency and devote high levels of time and energy where deadlines are require; and

–  a strong knowledge of electronic legal research techniques.
