Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library Science or related program from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library science program and/or Juris Doctorate and membership in The Florida Bar.  Professional experience as a law librarian to include experience with written legal research and legal research databases is preferred. Computer skills with website software and catalog software are preferred.  Good written and communication skills are desired.  Knowledge of Spanish and/or Creole is preferred.

Recruitment Notes

Extensive knowledge of legal research tools including Westlaw Next, Lexis, Google Scholar, and other legal research databases and other emerging technologies. Computer skills are preferred. Knowledge of one or more foreign languages (Spanish, French, Haitian Creole preferred).  Ability to conduct a reference interview in Spanish and /or Creole.  Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with people from varied backgrounds. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong service philosophy. Ability to work independently and  collaboratively. Knowledge of social media and ability to manage the library¿s social media accounts.

Varied duties include: legal reference; supervise and oversee the reference staff in the operation of the front desk; maintain desk coverage schedules; answer the telephone; set up appointments for the library conference room; close the library by performing shutdown duties; assisting patrons at the Circulation Desk; completing supplementation of materials received by the library in a timely fashion; servicing and maintaining copiers in various courthouse locations; developing, enhancing, recommending, and implementing policies and procedures for improved performance in reference, circulation, multi-media and electronic services. Keeping abreast of recent changes in the field of law and librarianship. Performing other related duties as assigned or as required.
