The Director of Reference and Research Services works with the Law Library Director and the other divisional directors to function as the library’s management team. Each divisional director’s responsibilities include the development and monitoring of their division’s services and policies, the allocation and supervision of personnel and other resources in the division, and the coordination of their division’s activities with those of the other law library divisions.
The Director of Reference and Research Services has responsibility for managing the Reference and Research Services department. Responsibilities include:
- Recruits, supervises, and evaluates six reference librarians.
- Manages extensive faculty reference and research services, including the assignment of projects to reference librarians and the coordination of RA assignments to reference librarians.
- Provides in-depth research assistance to Law faculty, departments, committees, and students.
- Coordinates reference desk coverage.
- Coordinates and participates in student outreach and instructional programs, including developing instructional programs for first-year law students, co-teaching Advanced Legal Research, and teaching in other workshops and classes.
- Plans and implements programs that expand and improve reference and research services.
- Coordinates library orientation programs and the creation of research guides.
- Manages library interns and provides ongoing support and supervision to a group of research assistants.
- Represents the Law Library on Law School and Library System committees and at various meetings and other Law School functions.

Required Qualifications
- J.D. and M.L.S. degrees (or the equivalent) and relevant academic law library experience with evidence of progressively increasing responsibilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and supervisory experience.
- Solid knowledge of legal bibliography and scholarly research.
- Demonstrated competence in delivering legal research services.
- Demonstrated interest in and commitment to teaching and developing the Law Library’s teaching program.
- Firm commitment to providing a high level of services to faculty and students in a demanding academic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to making the library hospitable and responsive to the needs of the Law School community, including excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and mediation skills and the ability to provide leadership for and work effectively with library colleagues, faculty, students, and library patrons.Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills.
- Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
