Since 1850, St Mary’s mission has been to provide a high quality professional environment, inspired by its distinctive ethos and values. The University is an inclusive academic community where everybody is welcomed.
St Mary’s is on an exciting journey of transformation and growth, to benefit students, staff and the wider St Mary’s community. As the University builds on its proud heritage, it will be looking for exceptional people to help shape its progressive future.
An exciting opportunity has become available to join St Mary’s University library at a time of development for the University and the library itself. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Law Librarian (0.6) to support the LLB Qualifying Law degree and other law-related programmes. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the learning, teaching and research activities of the Law programmes.
The successful candidate will develop relevant resource collections and contribute to curriculum delivery by designing and delivering learning activities in partnership with academic staff. They will work closely with the Programme Team in the development of new and existing programmes of study and to embed digital capabilities into the curriculum, as well as providing excellent enquiry and study support to students and staff.
The successful candidate will be part of the Academic Liaison Team. The team works closely together to develop University-wide library training and support services, as well as those specifically designed for the Schools and embedded into the curriculum.
The preferred candidate will be a pro-active, dynamic, service-oriented individual with a postgraduate library qualification or equivalent, excellent communication and presentation skills, understanding of pedagogical and sector issues, and experience of working in an academic law library, preferably with academic liaison and user education experience, or in a legal sector library with experience of staff development/training in using legal information sources. They will be expected to become part of relevant external networks and identify good and innovative practice which may be developed at St Mary’s.
The successful applicant’s hours will be 21.5 hours per week, the exact format to be finalised in consultation with the programme team, and will usually follow a standard pattern in the week over 3 or 4 days. Some early mornings/later working may be required, plus occasional weekend working, particularly at the beginning of the Academic year.
