Description and duties:
?Provide an approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable first point of contact for all firm members seeking timely in-depth legal and business research
?Prepare daily news services and customized monitoring of legislative and case law developments
?Train and advise students and lawyers on the use of resources such as the catalogue, various online databases, and library equipment (e.g. book sign-out scanner)
?Assist in the creation of end-user training documentation
?Conduct library orientations for new staff
?Participate in the development and maintenance of the Library print and electronic collection and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of new and existing research resources
?Assist with the design, development, and maintenance of our department’s intranet presence and promote accessibility of existing research resources
?Attend and actively participate in practice group meetings, provide specialized updates and act as a point person for these groups to enhance library services
?Contribute to marketing initiatives with client development research
?Mentor other team members on research methodology, resources, and reference interview techniques
?Collaborate with other members of the Library and Information Services Department to improve business processes, tools, methods, and effectiveness
Qualifications:
?Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited university
?Familiarity with the law, legal systems, and legal processes of Canada, the United States and Commonwealth jurisdictions
?Comprehensive knowledge of legal research methodologies and resources, both print and electronic
?Expert search skills in WestlawNext Canada, Lexis Advance Quicklaw, DisclosureNet, Practical Law as well as other news, business, tax, and legal databases
?Able to interpret a request and know when to seek additional information
?Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and entrepreneurial with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
?Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive and diverse projects
?Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and initiative, focusing on client service excellence
?Committed to ongoing professional development
?Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation
?Previous experience in a legal environment considered an asset
