Description
The University of California, Irvine School of Law seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative law librarian to serve as Associate Law Librarian for Public Services. Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Law Library, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the law library. Along with the Associate Law Librarian for Technical Services and the Associate Dean of the Law Library, the Associate Law Librarian for Public Services is a member of the library’s senior management team, and in this role is responsible for strategic planning, tracking and reporting statistics, writing annual reports, and handling library personnel matters. The Associate Law Librarian supervises a team of highly skilled and engaged reference librarians who provide outstanding service for the law faculty, and oversees a busy Access Services department. This position also participates in, and helps develop the library’s instructional programs, shares in collection development responsibilities, and has a vision for the changing and evolving role of law libraries. The ideal candidate has a strong history of effective leadership, excellent communication skills, and thrives in a team environment.
- Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of the Library, participates in all aspects of library administration, including budget administration, facilities planning and personnel management.
- Serves as part of the Library’s management team with the Associate Dean and the Associate Law Librarian for Technical Services.
- Takes front-line responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Law Library.
- In consultation with the Associate Dean, directs the activities of the public services units of the Law Library, including reference, and access services.
- Oversees the Law Library’s web presence, which includes providing easy access to electronic resources, developing online user guides and other web-based services, and undertaking digitization projects.
- Coordinates the Law Library’s publication program, including research guides, brochures, and annual reports.
- Participates as a member of the reference services unit, providing faculty research assistance, student reference help, and instruction as needed, and participates in collection development.
- Represents the Law Library on various Law School, campus-wide, and Library System committees and at various meetings and other functions.
- Works closely with the UCI Libraries to coordinate services and collaborate on resource sharing.
- Directly supervises key public services staff and provides training and professional development opportunities to improve staff effectiveness.
- Has oversight over all formal and informal instruction offered by the law library. Teaches a section of the first year Legal Research course, and participates in course development. Teaches other courses, such as ALR, as needed.
