Weil Gotshal & Manges is set to ramp up its Hong Kong presence as the firm moves to new premises in Hong Kong’s business

district.

The move to Alexandra House, which will more than double the US firm’s current office space, will allow it to accommodate all

its current lawyers in Hong Kong as well provide capacity for expected future expansion.

The firm is planning to fill out the base both via organic growth and through lateral recruitment.

The news comes after several notable hires for the firm in Hong Kong, with Clifford Chance (CC) fund formation partner John

Fadely and Simmons & Simmons corporate partner Henry Ong both joining the firm.

Executive partner Barry Wolf commented: “Strategically, Asia is an important growth area for Weil. We are actively investing in

people and infrastructure to serve our US and European-based clients who are expanding in the region, as well as our Asia-based

clients.”

Asia managing partner Akiko Mikumo added: “The Hong Kong office has seen significant growth over the last few years. We have

not only outgrown our current offices but we expect continued growth in our existing market leading practice. This move will give

us the space to further expand our team to meet the demands of our growing client base in Asia.”

The news comes after a period of substantial growth for Weil’s London office, with a team of CC funds partners, a Jones Day

restructuring duo and Linklaters banking partner Stephen Lucas all joining the firm during the past year.
