Sometimes I Feel Like Winston : Spirit Week At Lexis

Oftentimes when House of Butter communicates with current Lexis Nexis employees we do feel like Winston.. no not Winston Churchill? but..

Winston Smith

This week we discovered that there's some sort of dedicated period at LN in the States these day called Spirit Week.. Yes it is really called that.

We came across the following posted on the Linked In China & Lawyer discussion list earlier in the week

Its Spirit Week at LexisNexis! Thank you to all current and prior employees who make Lexis a great place to work!

and then these follow ups which frankly we find quite worrying

  • Yay for Spirit week! We appreciate you ALL! Speaking as a "newbie" Im glad to be here!!
  • Thanks Kevin! Happy Spirit Week to you, as well. Lexis is a great company!
  • I too loved my time at Lexis! Happy Spirit Week and huge Thank You to everyone. Lexis is a wonderful company because of you!

So our curiosity got the better of us and we asked what it was all about and learn from

Kevin Stehr a VP, Sales at LexisNexis? that? Spirit week is a dedicated time to celebrate our employees, culture, customers, corporate responsibility and innovation that sets LexisNexis apart from the rest of the industry.

and from another employee? who goes further to explain....

Spirit week was started by the Dayton Council which is a team of employees and is supported by management and the employee spirit council. But LN has had days like a spring fling since the 80's

And coporate responsibility refers to the fact that so many of the employees chose a way to contirbute to their communities with a Cares event on one day. The company provides that time in addition to the 2 days a year that each employee can do on their own.

So it appears in the end that yet again it's not actually LN who are being proactive it is their employees who we commend for helping in the community but what donations are the company making other than offering their employees time ?

But before we go Kevin Stehr makes sure we know how fab LN are with another pronouncement on how magnificent the company is

Corporate responsibility entails Lexis' committment to the community through probono work and community service. Beyond that we are committed to maintaining the highest levels of corporate governance, mimimizing our environmental footprint, celebrating diversity and supporting the rule of law throughout the world. In particular with the rule of law, we are focused on tacking the important issue of human trafficking. Among other things, Spirit Week provides our employees an opportunity to reflect on our committment and celebrate our success as we pursue the important busniess objective of corporate responsibility.

"an opportunity to reflect on our committent" please

Thank God for ex Lexis employees who know reality. This arrived in our inbox this morning from an ex Lexis bod who we can assure you was quite high up the ladder at the time who writes..

Subject: RE: Kevin Lexis Nexis Corporate Responsibility that sets Lexis Nexis apart from the rest of the industry - are we talking about the same...
WTF?? - I'm amazed that the LN Police haven't flagged your comment as "inappropriate"! The subsequent responses look like they've been written by the Dayton PR machine. I'm sure Kevin Stehr actually believes the rubbish he's writing. He must be so far up??? ..............

At this point we have to trail off as one or two people might get a little upset

This little 1984 exchange sums it up for us

Winston Smith: They got you too?
O'Brien: They got me a long time ago.
