Kimberly Dasse, Assistant Professor at the University of North Dakota School of Law, shared her expertise in international education and experiential learning at the 2026 Legal Writing Institute (LWI) Conference, hosted by the University of Minnesota School of Law.
Professor Dasse presented “Passport Stamps & Paradigm Shifts: What to Expect from Taking Students Overseas,” drawing on her 15 years of experience living in Asia and her work leading students on study abroad programs. Her presentation offered fellow legal educators an engaging and candid perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and unexpected lessons that come with guiding students through unfamiliar places and cultures.
For Professor Dasse, international education is ultimately about the transformative power of new experiences. Quoting Oliver Wendell Holmes, she said, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”
“That’s the real goal of these programs — and why I keep doing this work,” Professor Dasse said.
