A very interesting post on LIS LAW yesterday by the librarian at a UK firm and worth alerting others to...
The Librarian writes.....
(we) were recently contacted by a researcher from Perspective Market Research, who asked to speak to their internal tax users of our online information platform (LexisLibrary). The researcher explained that he was undertaking a LexisNexis usage survey on behalf of LexisNexis, and that there would be a fee paid to all participants (which could go to charity or to the person giving the survey).
As this was not the usual channel to contact us, we checked this with our LexisNexis account manager. After internal enquiries, he confirmed that this survey had not been commissioned by them. Further investigation by LexisNexis had Perspective firstly claiming to be acting on their behalf, and then change this to suggest they were acting for CCH! Interestingly the Perspective website does list Wolters Kluwer as a client.
We have also been contacted by the same research company who declined to say who they were calling on behalf of, the research was carried out and then revealed who they were doing the research for at the end.
LexisNexis have asked that if anyone on the list have been contacted by Perspective and have been led to believe the research was on behalf of Lexisnexis, could they please contact their account manager. In the meantime, please be aware that this has been taking place, and that legitimate research projects from LexisNexis will identify themselves as such and that will ask any agency they engage to abide by the appropriate code of conduct.
So -- you have been warned.. what we wonder is why on earth they would lie to law firms about which client they were acting for .. odd and very stupid we say
