NEW YORK (June 4, 2026) — The Human Rights Foundation (HRF), in partnership with fellow human rights organizations, has issued a joint letter calling on Equatorial Guinea’s ruler Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to immediately release lawyer and activist Anacleto Micha Ndong Nlang from Oveng Azem Prison and provide transparency on his condition and well being. The letter urges the government to comply with the findings of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which determined that Ndong Nlang’s detention is arbitrary and called for his immediate release and the provision of adequate compensation for the harm suffered as a result of his unlawful detention.
