The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for urgent investigations into the death of an advocate, saying he was assaulted, tortured and killed by unknown persons.
In a statement, LSK President Charles Kanjama said the circumstances surrounding the death of Advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa demand “unequivocal condemnation and immediate action,” urging security agencies to move swiftly to establish what happened.
“Our colleague was assaulted, tortured, and murdered by unknown persons. The circumstances surrounding Tom’s death demand our unequivocal condemnation and immediate action,” said Kanjama.

LSK further urged the National Police Service and the DCI to conduct swift, effective and credible investigations into the death.
“If state actors were involved in this torture and murder, there must be no sanctuary for them,” it added.
The legal body also extended condolences to the family of the deceased advocate, as well as to friends and members of the legal fraternity who are mourning his death.
It pledged to provide legal support to the family throughout the investigation process and any subsequent proceedings.
According to the statement, the LSK will decide on further action once more information emerges regarding the circumstances of the killing. It maintained that it would not relent in pursuing justice for the deceased.
“Justice for Tom Ouya Imbukwa is not negotiable. We will not stand by as our members are targeted, tortured and killed. The hand of the law is indeed long, and we shall ensure it reaches those responsible for this atrocity,” the society stated.
This comes a few months after the killing of senior lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu in Nairobi, an incident that also raised concern within the legal fraternity over the safety of legal practitioners in the country.
