Yemeni human rights lawyer Hanin Yusuf al-Sarari issued an urgent appeal for protection Saturday, calling on judicial authorities, security agencies, and the Bar Association to intervene after receiving death threats and being pursued by Houthi elements.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page, al-Sarari revealed she had faced a series of violations, including explicit threats to kill her and dispose of her body, as well as unlawful detention despite filing a criminal complaint with the relevant authorities.
She said she was harassed inside a police station while following legal procedures, prevented from leaving, and subjected to what she described as illegal interrogation, while armed individuals she had filed complaints against were present inside the station.
Al-Sarari denounced this as a blatant violation of her rights and of the professional immunity of lawyers.
Holding the Houthis fully responsible for her safety, she stressed that her ordeal reflects a broader threat to the rule of law and public security.
The incident highlights a growing pattern of abuses targeting lawyers in Houthi-controlled areas, amid the absence of legal protection and accountability mechanisms.
