A disbarred lawyer who was arrested last year is facing additional charges after authorities said he represented multiple clients after losing his license.
David T. Schlendorf, 54, now a resident of Holladay, Utah, was first charged in October of last year when it was alleged that he made $10,000 representing a client after being disbarred. He was disbarred in December 2022 and took on the client in March 2025, authorities said.
In October, he was charged with theft by deception and unauthorized practice of law. Last week, he was charged with an additional four counts of theft by deception and five counts of unauthorized practice of law. He was served with the new charges by summons.
The additional charges are the result of an ongoing investigation, which found that Schlendorf represented an additional five clients after losing his license, authorities said. Investigators allege that the clients payed him a combined $60,000 between January 2023 and September 2025.
“We suspected there may be additional victims, and unfortunately we are finding this to be true,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement.
Schlendorf, who was admitted to the bar in 1997 and practiced in Toms River, was disbarred on Dec. 28, 2022, according to state judiciary records.
He was issued a letter of admonition in July 2018 for failing to obey rules regarding retainer agreements in family law matters, according to a letter from the state Supreme Court’s disciplinary review board.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is asking any additional victims to call Sgt. Lindsay Llauget at 732-929-2027.
