Activists, lawyers and opponents of the regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? gathered yesterday in front of the Palace of Justice in Belgrade to demand the release of lawyer ?edomir Stojkovi?, who is in detention.
Protesters described Stojkovic as a political prisoner, alarming that his detention is related to his public activity and statements he has made that directly implicate Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
According to protest participants, Stojkovic had raised the alarm about Vu?i?’s possible role in the “Sarajevo Safari”, an issue that is being investigated and has caused debate in public opinion.
The rally was attended by several well-known figures from civil society and opposition politics, including lawyer and vice-president of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, Aleksandar Olenik, as well as human rights activist Natasa Kandic.
“Protests for illegal detention. Cedomir Stojkovic is in detention because he published information that Shkoda is terminating the contract with BI(A), and it seems that this is an institutional silence due to the investigation into the Sarajevo Safari,” she writes.
The organizers demanded Stojkovic’s immediate release and an independent investigation into the case, stating that his arrest is an attempt to silence voices critical of the government in Serbia.
The protest took place without incident, while participants warned that they will continue with other rallies until the lawyer is released.
Belgrade lawyer and social media activist ?edomir Stojkovi? was arrested in Belgrade in December and later released to defend his freedom.
After his release, Stojkovic wrote on Facebook to clarify the circumstances of his arrest, saying that he had been banned from posting on the social network X and the YouTube platform, and that his mobile phone had been confiscated, regional media reported.
According to him, the arrest was officially justified by previous posts on the X network, where he had commented on the EuroMaidan protests in Ukraine and mentioned Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?.
However, Stojkovic claims that the real reason for the arrest is related to the criminal complaint he filed against Vu?i?, due to allegations of his connection to the so-called “Sarajevo Sniper Safari”.
He said that his posts on the subject had attracted the attention of international media and that the arrest constituted political censorship.
The term “Sarajevo Safari” refers to allegations that during the siege of Sarajevo (1992–1996), civilians were shot by snipers, including foreigners, an issue that was brought back into focus after the documentary Sarajevo Safari (2022).
In November 2025, the Milan Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation to examine suspicions that Italian citizens may have been involved in these events during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
