OBA Indian Law Section awards $12,000 in scholarships

The Oklahoma Bar Association‘s Indian Law Section has awarded $12,000 in scholarships to four law students through the annual G. William Rice Memorial Scholarship. The 2025 recipients are Baylee Ogle and Madison Bailey from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Cheyanne Hill from Oklahoma City University School of Law, and Madison Foster from the University of Tulsa College of Law.

The scholarships, consisting of one $5,000 award, one $3,000 award and two $2,000 awards, help defray bar examination preparation costs. Recipients must demonstrate academic merit and commitment to practicing Indian law in Oklahoma. The scholarship honors the late G. William Rice, a distinguished Indian law practitioner, professor and co-director of the Native American Law Center at the University of Tulsa College of Law, who died in 2016.

All four recipients are third-year law students and enrolled tribal members with demonstrated leadership in Indian law. Debra Gee, scholarship committee co-chair, noted the exceptional caliber of applicants made selection particularly challenging. Oklahoma is home to 39 federally recognized tribes and the second-largest American Indian population in the United States. The Indian Law Section comprises more than 500 practitioners interested in Indian law.
