Job Title:

Senior Manager Legal

Position Summary:

Sapient seeks a talented, business-oriented lawyer to join our global Legal Team. The person will be our first in-house lawyer in Singapore, responsible for a wide range of commercial, corporate, employment and other matters.

The candidate?s primary responsibilities will include:
Drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts with Sapient?s clients, vendors and partners, and advising Asia-Pacific client executives and other business partners on the legal and commercial (financial and business) aspects of Sapient?s contractual/client relationships
Supporting in general corporate matters, including corporate secretarial and related duties for Sapient?s Asia-Pacific subsidiaries
Supporting Sapient?s People Success (HR) Asia-Pacific team in employment-related matters
Acting as a key legal advisor and business partner to Asia-Pacific leadership


The ideal candidate will have experience working in ? and must thrive on ? a fast-paced, fluid and collegial corporate culture. Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, business results-driven legal team and directly advising clients is also a must. Regular travel throughout the Asia-Pacific region (principally China, Australia and India) and occasional travel to other Sapient global locations (Europe and US) is required.

The new lawyer will report to senior Legal Team management in Europe, and will collaborate closely with multiple members of the Legal Team.

Key Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities will likely include the following and others as assigned:

Commercial Contracts:
Review, draft, negotiate and close commercial contracts, including master services agreements, statements of work, licenses, RFP responses and supporting documents across both of Sapient?s primary business lines: SapientNitro (branding, advertising/marketing and associated IT services/consulting) and Sapient Global Markets (business and IT services/consulting to the financial and commodity markets)
Support business clients in negotiating price, deliverables, services scope, warranty and other commercial terms
Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to maximize revenues, minimize risk for Sapient and foster long-term client relationships
Aid in ongoing integration of the Asia-Pacific business into Sapient?s global contracting processes and procedures, including implementing and conducting training, collaborating with Sapient finance, business and Legal Team members within Asia-Pac and globally on integration matters


Corporate:
Ensure full corporate compliance and good standing of all Asia-Pacific subsidiaries
Provide assistance to other Legal Team members and Finance with regard to general corporate matters, including formation of new entities, development of tax-efficient structures and M&A


Employment:
Work closely with Legal Team employment counsel to ensure effective implementation of global polices and training throughout Asia-Pacific business unit
Counsel People Success (HR) team and business leadership concerning a wide range of employment, benefits, immigration and mobility issues


General:
Act as principal local point of contact for Asia-Pacific legal matters, engaging and collaborating with Global Legal Team colleagues as necessary to ensure effective delivery of legal services
In collaboration with Legal Team leadership, develop legal best practices and policies for Asia-Pacific business unit
Collaborate with and facilitate cross-team decision-making among the Legal Team, Finance Team, business teams and other internal teams
Work with Sapient?s global Legal Team in additional areas as the candidate?s experience warrants, including intellectual property, compliance and litigation oversight
Instruction and oversight of outside counsel as required


Job Requirements:

Education/Admission:
J.D. or equivalent degree/training program from top-ranked law school/university
Member in good standing of applicable bar association/legal society


Experience:
6 to 9 years? experience in a major law firm and/or multinational corporation (combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred)
Significant experience in commercial contracts drafting/negotiation, corporate governance/corporate secretarial practice and employment matters
Familiarity with consulting, information technology services and advertising/marketing business and industry highly valued
Meaningful experience with legal issues in relevant jurisdictions (Singapore, Australia, China)
Advertising compliance knowledge a plus
Chinese language skills a plus

ensure corporate compliance and good standing of multiple corporate entities
provide effective counsel on all aspects of the employee lifecycle (hiring through termination)
Ability to grapple with novel/complex legal matters and provide practical business solutions
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively within a globally distributed team and fast-paced business environment
Demonstrated ability to think and decide quickly, to be flexible and creative when providing legal and commercial advice, and to communicate legal issues and solutions clearly and concisely
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a clear and concise drafting style
