An author has spoken out after a Cornwall deli owner had looked to sue her publisher over a recently published cookbook the entrepreneur said used the same name as that of her business.

Kate Attlee, the founder and owner of Sabzi, was planning to take legal action against publishing giant Bloomsbury after claiming it infringed her copyright as she believed she had registered both the word mark “Sabzi” and its corresponding figurative mark, in classes that cover books – cookery books, writing materials and recipe books – as well as online retail and retail services in connection with books.

Ms Attlee launched her first Sabzi deli in Truro in 2019 shortly after reaching the quarter finals of BBC’s MasterChef, and has now expanded her business to also include branches in FalmouthPadstow and Nansledan at Newquay.
