Paul Weller launches legal action against former accountants

British artist Paul Weller is taking legal action against his former accountants, accusing them of dropping him as a client due to his views on Gaza.

Weller’s discrimination claim quotes a message from a partner at Harris and Trotter saying that the firm was “offended at the assertions that Israel is committing any type of genocide… you are alleging such anti-Israel views that we as a firm with Jewish roots and many Jewish partners are not prepared to work with someone who holds these views”.

Weller’s lawyers argue that this is unlawful discrimination against what Sky News described as “protected philosophical beliefs”, with the artist making his views clear about the dispute.

“I’ve always spoken out against injustice, whether it’s apartheid, ethnic cleansing, or genocide. What’s happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza is a humanitarian catastrophe,” he said.

“I believe they have the right to self-determination, dignity, and protection under international law, and I believe Israel is committing genocide against them. That must be called out.”

Harris and Trotter has yet to comment but we’ll update the online version of this story if it does.
