Our client, an American MNC, is presently looking for a legal counsel to be based in Kuala Lumpur to support their regional business units and groups across various jurisdictions in the region including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and India.
Some of the main responsibilities are detailed below
Responsibilities:
To manage day-to-day legal activities for business units or groups.
To ensure compliance of applicable laws of the US and the local jurisdictions.
Particulars:
Regular review and updating of business contracts.
Preparing and reviewing various contracts and other legal documents (including sales contracts, purchase contracts, licenses, distribution agreements and leases).
Assisting in negotiation of business contracts.
Advising business unit leaders in respect of daily operational issues, including intellectual property and human resources matters.
Supporting merger and acquisition activities, managing legal due diligence of target companies, and preparing and reviewing acquisition documents.
Managing litigation and other contentious matters.
Conducting training.
Monitoring and reporting on the promulgation of new laws and regulations.
Working with Government Affairs team and Environment Health &Safety team to promote and protect the Group?s interests.
Travelling in the region is required.

Qualifications:
LLB from a major university in a common law jurisdiction, and (preferably) bar admission in Malaysia.
A minimum of 5 years? post qualification experience in a major national or international law practice and/or in the law department of a reputable
international company.
Language:
Excellent command of written and spoken English. A second Asian language (such as Hindi or Chinese) preferred.
