Dua Lipa wins ‘Levitating’ copyright lawsuit; continues to face another legal battle against Bosko Kante for $2 million

A United States court has dismissed a lawsuit accusing British pop singer Dua Lipa of copying elements of Levitating from the two disco tracks—Wiggle and Giggle All Night (1979) and Don Diablo (1980). Judge Katherine Polk Failla ruled that the alleged similarities—including descending melody and rhythmic pattern—were too generic to be protected under copyright law.

As per the news reports, the judge said citing evidence that such musical elements have been widely used in various compositions, including works by Mozart, Rossini, and the Bee Gees.

The ruling came on the fifth anniversary of Levitating’s release, as Lipa is continuing her Radical Optimism tour with the Australian leg concluding in Sydney, the Independent report stated.
