Private credit’s move into the retail investment space marks a major evolution in the asset class, which has grown from USD1 trillion in 2020 to over USD1.6 trillion by the end of 2024. The EU AI Act and National AI Standards: Risk of Fragmentation of the Internal Market
Who would have thought that Artificial Intelligence could potentially hinder – as well as aid – commercial transactions within the European Union? As Bruno Lebrun and Wafa Lachguer of Belgian firm Janson reveal in this very interesting piece, the free movement of AI-powered goods is fundamental to ensure seamless transactions across all EU nations. However, we are told that this market could be at risk of much legislative conflict as technological processes are imposed differently in each jurisdiction.
This article presents how the new EU AI Act tries to coordinate national regulatory initiatives with the need for legal coherence inside the Union; at the same time, the lawyers warn us, strict enforcement should be exercised to ensure that this new directive also preserves the fundamental trade rights of each member state.
